Albert Sabo

December 31, 1969 — October 2, 2006

Obituary of Albert Sabo Albert Sabo, aged 78, passed away on Monday, October 2nd, quietly at his home. He was born January 13th, 1928 in Hopelawn, New Jersey but lived most of his life in Barre and Clarendon. The fourth son and fifth of seven children of an immigrant father, the late Antal Szabo, and his mother Elizabeth, he was proud of his Hungarian heritage.
"Al" retired from Rochester products in 1986 and had previously worked at Duffy Motts and Holley Cold Storage. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, hunting & fishing, woodcarving, cooking, and especially his family. He joined his three older brothers as the second of three generations of proud US Military Servicemen, serving most of his time in Guam and Iwo Jima. He always wanted to make people laugh and was usually the life of the party. He kept that sense of humor to the very end. He provided unwavering support and encouragement to his children and was eager to express his love for them without reservation. He loved to tell his children stories of the 'old days' and later enjoyed sharing them with his grandchildren as well. His was not a life that would have stood out during his time but, that which is growing increasingly rare as we enter the 21st century. He held on tightly to his values that he acquired while growing up during the depression and WWII. He always removed his hat when entering your home, and expected the same respect from you. He may be considered old fashioned by some today, but he believed strongly in the moral and social character that this country was founded on. He had strong beliefs and was not shy about expressing them. Those who did not share the same opinions surely remember that. Though he was loved and respected throughout his life, "it isn't until the evening that we truly realize what a wonderful day it was".
