Obituary of Arlene Long McCall Holley, NY
Arlene Long McCall passed away on November 17, 2013 at the age of 92. Born the youngest child into a farm family in 1921, Arlene loved outdoor chores her whole life. After moving from Oakfield to Holley, Arlene married the boy next door, Donald McCall, in 1942. Their first daughter was born during WWII while Don was away in the Army. After the war, they raised their three children in the Holley area where Arlene happily supported their school and church activities. The Holley Marching Band of the 60s and 70s was a particular joy. If you asked Arlene about her job, she'd say it was to "look after the old people," especially her beloved mother-in-law, Emily McCall. Arlene will be remembered for her work ethic, compassion, relentless picture taking and eager anticipation of family gatherings.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Donald McCall; daughter Laurie (Tom Hess) McCall of Rochester; daughter-in-law: Diane McCall of Hamlin; son-in-law Arlie Schwan of Lancaster; grandchildren, Leah Schwan of Depew, Colleen (Jason) Trusler of Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arlene was predeceased by two children, Kathy Schwan and Larry McCall.
The family will receive friends at the Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Home, 39 Geddes St., Holley on Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 10 a.m. - 11a.m., where her Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. following calling hours. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
