December 31, 1969 — November 3, 2014

Obituary of Barbara Edna Shuman Capen Barbara Edna Shuman Capen, 71 of Lockport, New York entered into eternal rest Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at Briody's Rehabilitation Facility after a long respiratory illness. Barbara has chosen to be cremated, and her ashes will be interred with those of her late husband, Bill, at Hartland Central Cemetery. Her family will have a Celebration of her Life at a later date. Barb was born Dec. 21, 1942 in Niagara Falls, N.Y. to Milford and M. Eleanor Nenno-Shuman. Barb was raised in Newfane, spent her married life in Barker, and died in Lockport. On March 13, 1960, in her junior year at Newfane Central School, she married William Bernard Capen. Of that union, two children were born: Vicki Lynn Capen and William Bernard Capen II. She loved her family with all her heart, and took care of them at great personal sacrifice. Barb had an overwhelming, unconditional love of her son and daughter which she manifested by doing everything and anything for them. Barb was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, friend, and caregiver. She had a way of always being there when you needed her. She dearly loved dogs, especially her little pug, Wilma. She fashioned Wilma's name by combining her late husband’s name, William with the family name for Barb, “Mom”: therefore "Wilma". Later in life Barb learned the piano. One of her treasured grandchildren is also the grandchild of her beloved piano teacher. Barb enthusiastically embraced her husband's and son's love of car racing and all of its glory. Barb is survived by her children: Vicki Lynn Capen of Arizona and William Bernard Capen II of Lockport, sister: Janet Ward of Newfane, brother: Dr. Robert (Marcia) Shuman of Placerville, Ca., brother: Dwight (Wendy) Shuman (SMSgt USAF, Ret) of Jacksonville, Fl., sister: Dawn (Robert, RN) Giboney RN of Columbia, MO., niece: Robin Leigh (Paul) Ward Cummons of Lockport, nephew: Johnny (Jennifer) Ward of Louisiana, sister-in-law: Anna Capen of Lockport and her 6 Grandchildren and 11 Great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: William Bernard Capen, her parents: Milford and M. Eleanor Nenno-Shuman, and her brother: Duane William Shuman (MSgt USAFR, Ret). Barbara is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. She is resting in the arms of our Lord. Please go to www.sherriefuneralhome.com and leave a condolence for the family.
