Obituary of Barbara E. Gill Surrounded by family, Barbara Ellen Gill, 58, passed away September 23, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a long battle with cancer. She was born September9,1959 in Brockport, NY to Jonas (Frank) and Ferne (Knittle) Barnett. Barbara grew up in Holley where she graduated from the Holley High School in 1977. While raising 3 children she found a passion for home health care, helping people in their homes when they needed it most. This new-found passion came to her easily. She was an incredibly giving and caring person with so much love in her heart, making her the perfect person for such a demanding job. She also took in 2 teens, raising them until they graduated high school. An altruist to the last breath. Barbara and James Gill were happily together for 33 years. They were married for 28 of those years. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing slots, going on cruises and spending time with her grandson, nieces and nephews. For the last 2 ½ years she had live-in assistance from her great niece Amy Rasmussen and her son Jesse. Barbara was preceded in death by her father Jonas and mother Ferne and in-laws Wesley and Harriett Gill. Barbara is survived by her spouse James, sons Richard (Julie) Clark, Adam Gill and daughter Amanda Gill , brother Franklin Barnett and sisters Tressa (Frank) Stumpf , Joan (Richard) Samsel, grandsons Jonas & “soon to be born Gill”, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 16650 State Route 31, Holley on Saturday September 30th from 1:00-3:00pm where her service will follow at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Genesee CountyAnimal Shelter 3841 W. Main St. Rd. Batavia, NY 14020.
