Obituary of Barbara Ann Vanderlaan Barbara Vanderlaan, 58, of Pasadena, MD, formerly of Albion, passed away on Wednesday, April 8th. She was the daughter of Stanley and Elizabeth Vanderlaan. Barb graduated from Albion High School and attended Cortland and Plattsburgh to earn a dual Bachelor's degree and her first Master's degree, in Psychology. After serving as a school psychologist for 10 years at the Wilson school district, she returned to college to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at the University of West Florida, and a Master's Degree at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. She retired from the Department of Defense in 2014. Barb was involved in many sports, as a player and a spectator. She was on many volleyball and softball leagues, and loved to travel and hike with friends and family. Barb traveled extensively in the U.S., and had traveled to Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. Barb was a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan and was a member of the Bills Backers of Central Maryland. She was also a formidable opponent in Fantasy Football. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Katherene; brothers David, Ronald (Joanne), Dale (Anna); sister Donna; niece Kristin (Benjamin) Kaiser; and nephew Marc. Barb also leaves behind many great friends (especially Anh), her sidekick, Totem, and numerous travel partners. There will be a private graveside service and interment at Union Cemetery.
