Obituary of Bennett Kleitz Sr. Lockport: Bennett Kleitz Sr. age 90, passed away March 28, 2018 at Lockport Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born June 22, 1927 in McKees Rocks PA. Bennett served his country with the 808th Engineering Corps. in the Asiatic Pacific during WWII. In 1965 he started Benway Builders in Lockport and had built many homes in this area. Bennett was a life member of the Gasport Lions Club where he served as past president, and promoted locally the youth exchange program, chaired environmental committees and harvest dances. Bennett was awarded the Melvin Jones Award, the highest honor given by Lions Clubs International. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, deep sea fishing, horse racing the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Kleitz and son John Shaw. Bennett is survived by his children, Kathleen Baehr, Bennett (Victoria) Klietz Jr., Cheryl (Jack) Bloomingdale, James (Stacey) Kleitz and David (Davenee) Kleitz; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St. Middleport, NY on Tuesday April 3, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00. Services and interment in Huskey Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gasport Lions Club, P.O. Box 81, Gasport, NY 14067.
