Albion: Carl L. Gurnsey, age 82, passed away suddenly at Strong Memorial Hospital on October 17, 2021. Born December 21, 1938 to Carl L. and Edith (Morse) Gurnsey in Corning, NY.
Carl attended schools in Gates and Spencerport, and graduated from Albion High School with the class of 1957. After his school years, he joined the U.S. Army and spent most of his three years in For Mommouth, NJ. After honorable discharge from the Army, Carl was employed at T.J. Lipton until 1962 and then Eastman Kodak until retiring in 1991. After acquiring his CDL License at BOCES in Batavia, Carl drove school bus for Albion Central School, Medina Central School and also for a short time in Florida. Carl loved his children, grandchildren, and family. He was very fond of baseball, bowling and his pets, especially his Jack Russell, Jack. Carl was a long-time member of the Elks BPOE Lodge #2110, Brockport. He respectfully served as Exalted Ruler in 2000. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and St. Mary’s Club.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Edith Gurnsey, sister Kay Schults, granddaughter, Tiara Fugate, and son Philip L. Gurnsey.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn (Dawson) Gurnsey, son, Randy (Nina) Gurnsey, daughters, Sandra (Marvin) Dawley, and Suzanne (Todd Grimes) Fugate, all of Albion, sister, Marilyn Rouse, brother-in-law, Art Beach, sister-in-law, Pat Beach, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Ave. Albion, NY 14411 on Saturday, October 30th from 12:00-2:00pm where his funeral service will follow at 2:00pm. The family encourages those in attendance to please wear a mask. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, W. County House Rd. Albion.
