5/27/1926-5/27/2016 On her 90th birthday surrounded by family Catherine went to be with the Lord. Catherine was loved by all that knew her. She was a gentle soul that spoke softly and lived a Christian life having early ties to the Methodist Church from her childhood, joining the Middleport United Methodist Church on February 11, 1973. She was a graduate of Jonesboro High School in 1945. Moving from NC to NY in 1950 raised her family in Pendleton until 1967 when she moved to Middleport until 1976 when she moved to Florida and operated Camp Henry Fishing Resort with her husband. Catherine came back to Middleport in 2004.
Catherine was the daughter of the late Francis Carr and Annie (nee Campbell) Buchanan. Beloved wife of the late James M. Simmons. Cherished mother of Julia (the late Robert) Maedl, Theresa (James) Fink, Cynthia Simmons, and the late Gary Simmons. Cherished grandmother of Richard Maedl, Heather (Shane) Pedini, Jessica Lynn and Kelly Ann Fink, Matthew (Carla), Brandon, Justin (Ciara), and Jordan and the late Ryan Wittcop. Great-grandmother of Malina Elizabeth and Blake Alexis Bartholomew, Evan James and Owen Robert Maedl, Chandler, Madison and Jayden Pedini, Brent Smith, Tyler, Brynn, Shya, Mikayla, Lilly, Natalia, and Isabelle Wittcop. Dearest sister of John Frederick(Peggy) Buchanan and Evelyn Corinna Bryan and the late Bryan, Francis Carr Jr., and Robert Buchanan, and Betty Lou Wall. During her years in Middleport Catherine became a floor supervisor at Fisher Price in Medina, NY. Her hobbies included bowling, making flag pins, walking, reading, working on word puzzles and enjoying the company of her family. She was the Historian and Secretary for the North Central Chapter of American Ex-Prisoner of War while in Florida. Catherine also attended the Flag Day Ceremonies at the Royalton Hartland Central Schools as a representative of the POW Chapter. She made hundreds of cross stich flags to give out to others and was very supportive of many veterans associations. Catherine also attended the memorial celebration in Middleport each year to show her respect. As an independent senior Catherine was an avid bowler until age 88 and walked up to 2 miles a day until her recent illness. Her love of hummingbirds was evident as she maintained multiple feeders. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Catherine's name to Middleport United Methodist Church. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 2nd at Middleport United Methodist Church, corner of Park Ave. and Vernon St., Middleport NY, at 7:00 PM, friends invited.
