Obituary of Charles Brooks Charles Avery Brooks age 96, died February 13, 2013 at his home. He was born July 12, 1916 in the Town of Gaines a son of the late Merl and May (Densmore) Brooks and had lived in this area all his life. Avery was a member of the Albion First Baptist Church, Strickland Post 4635 VFW and a life member of B.P.O.E Albion Lodge #1006. Avery served in the US Army during WWII, European Theater in the 4th Armored Division 94th Field Artillery and was later transferred to the 631st Ammunition Supply and landed in Normandy on D-Day. He was a former employee of the N.Y.S Dept. of Corrections at the Albion Correctional Facility and Coffey Brothers. Avery was known for his caning, furniture restoration, gardening and dancing with his granddaughters. He was an avid baseball fan, story teller and enjoyed shuffle board.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Byron, Harold, Pete, Robert, Gerald; son-in-law, James Keeler; grandson, Paul Keeler.
He is survived by loving wife Louise of 66 years; children, Pat Keeler of Albion, Larry (Laura) Harvey of Albion, Pam (Jim) Smith of Waterport, Ann (Mark) Warycka of Albion, Elaine (Ralph) Clute of Albion, Dale (Kathy) Brooks of Albion; 11 grandchildren; 17great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Hutchins of Columbus OH.; brothers, Keith Brooks of Medina, Dean (Delores) Brooks of Lyndonville; sisters-in-law, Zilcie Brooks of Niagara Falls, Jean Brooks of Albion; several nieces, nephews, cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 W. Avenue Albion, Monday from 3:00-7:00. Avery's Memorial Service will be held at the Albion First Baptist Church Tuesday at 11:00am. Interment at Mt. Albion Cemetery with full Military Honors.
