Obituary of Charles August Gerstung Charles A. Gerstung, beloved husband of the late Mary A. Gerstung, entered into rest with his family by his side at home on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. Charles was a Newfane resident until he and Mary moved to Saudi Arabia for three years to work construction. He also resided in Port St. Lucie, Florida for 25 years. Charles and Mary moved back to Newfane to be with family in 2005. Charles was married to Mary on July 12, 1947 at her home on East Avenue, Newfane. Charles served in the US Army during World War II in the South Pacific Fiji Islands and Guadalcanal. Charles was a local member of the Operating Engineers 17 and Newfane American Legion Post 873. While living in Port St. Lucie, Charles served as a board member of The Salvation Army, as well as an active servant in churches both in Newfane and Florida. Charles was born in Wilson, NY on June 26, 1923. He was the son of the late Grace (Lampe) and Floyd Gerstung. He was a devoted father to Mark A. (Suzanne) Gerstung and the late Paul A. Gerstung. Charles was also a loving grandfather to Tonya M. Gerstung, Mark A. (Cara) Gerstung II, Kourtney M. Gerstung and great grandfather to Isaiah M. Gerstung and Ava M. Gerstung. Charles was the pillar of his family, always showing God’s grace and love through his service of volunteering and helping others. He will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane on Sunday from 2-5pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday August 18th at 11am at the Grace Bible Church, 6023 Dutton Place, Newfane NY. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Olcott, NY.
