Obituary of DiNardo Jr. DiNardo, Joseph M. Jr. of Lockport passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport Site.
Mr. DiNardo was born in Middleport on June 28, 1920 son of the late Joseph M. DiNardo and Katherine (DeCarlo) DiNardo.
He served in the US Army during World War II under General George Patton, 2nd Armored Division (Hell on Wheels). He was a Sargent, First Class, Combat Engineers. He received two Purple Hearts and several other medals. He served in Morocco, Sicily, Algeria, Normandy, England, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxumberg, Andennes, Rhineland, Central Europe, Africa and Germany. He was the most prolific and knowledgeable person on facts and events of World War II. He could recite at any given time accurately what happened and on what day.
He retired from Corson Manufacturing in Lockport after 47 years of service.
He loved gardening, history, stamps, a good plate of spaghetti and a glass of wine and was a craftsman woodworker.
He was loved and respected by anyone who ever met him and only had kind words to say about all.
"The war is over Joe, we all love you".
He was predeceased by his wife Erminia DiNardo, his son Michael Hurdiss, his siblings Angelo Di, Nardo, Anthony DiNardo, Peter DiNardo, Daniel DiNardo, Nicholas DiNardo, a brother-in-law Anthony Rosati; sisters-in-law Jeanne DiNardo, Kate DiNardo, Mary DiNardo and Marie Rosati.
Also predeceased by a nephew Michael DiNardo.
He is survived by his brother Thomas DiNardo of Middleport, his grandchildren, Desiree, Christopher, Michael and Lisa Hurdiss, uncle of Debbie and Mark Beckstein, Kathleen and Michael Switalski, James and Kathryn DiNardo, Patty Fulwell, Barb McKenna and several others. Also survived by a niece, Wendy DiNardo.
Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00PM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Stephen's RC Church, 21 Vernon St., Middleport where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Fawls.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lockport, NY.
