Obituary of Donald B. Bowes Don married Mida Jane Morson June 9, 1962. They had been married for 50 years. Don served in the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1971 serving two tours of duty in Vietnam with the First Calvary and the Americal Division. He served in Japan, Korea, Okinawa, Germany and numerous forts throughout the United States. He received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal with three knots, National Defense Medal, two Korean Service Defense Medals and the Vietnam Combat Ribbon. He attended the seventh & eighth Army NCO School and Drill Sergeant School. After returning from the Army, Don worked for the NYS Department of Transportation on the Highway Crew. He was a member of the B. Leo Dolan American Legion, VFW Post #2535, Disables American Veterans and the Newfane Golden Age Club. He enjoyed traveling, listening to music, watching western movies and spending time with his grandchildren. He had lived in Texas, Colorado, Missouri and New York. Don is survived by his wife: Mida Jane; daughter: Lorri (Scott) Edmister and Vicki (Eric) Buzyniski. Grandfather of: Joshua and Daniel Edmister and Chelsea and Mason Bowes. Brother of: Francis Bowes of California and Nancy (Donald) Davis of Burt. He was predeceased by siblings: Doris, Leo, Vincent, Betty and Edward. Several nieces and nephews also survive Don. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held from the funeral home on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Glenwood Mausoleum, Lockport, NY. Memorials appreciated to a charity of one’s choice.
