Obituary of Donald L. Hallenbeck Albion, NY/Silver Springs, FL: Donald “Fuzzy”, “Pop” Lake Hallenbeck, 88, formerly of Silver Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2017 at The Villages of Orleans in Albion, NY. Born the eldest child to Dorothy and Donald Frank Hallenbeck on March 21, 1928 in Mattydale, NY, Donald spent the majority of his childhood in Cleveland, NY with his five sisters and four brothers. Following high school graduation in Cleveland, NY in 1945, Donald enlisted in the Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1949. After leaving the army, he attended Roberts Wesleyan College for two years. On September 19, 1953, Donald married Evelyn Truax at the Methodist Church in Cleveland, NY. They began married life together in Rochester, NY, before eventually moving their family of four children to Albion, NY. Over the course of his career, Donald was employed by Taylor Instrument Company, EW Edwards & Son, and Harradine’s. In 1980, Donald Moved to Silver Springs, FL. He met Inge Hume in 1988. They were together for the past 28 years and enjoyed traveling extensively. In early 2016, following the passing of Inge, Donald returned to Albion, NY to be near family. Donald was active in scouting throughout his life, serving as Scoutmaster in Albion Troop 42 and Silver Springs long after his own children were grown. Pop loved driving everyone crazy with his corny puns…and, more notably, “explaining” those puns to anyone who stood still long enough to listen. He enjoyed hiking, camping, woodworking, gardening, and the warmth of his Florida home.
He was predeceased by his son, Michael Paul Hallenbeck in 1974 and his companion of 28 years, Ingeborg Hume in 2016. Donald is survived by his siblings, Richard (Cathy), Dorothy (Walter) Scott, Radyne Kinne, Thelma (William) Stewart, Bruce (Ruth), Charles (Eileen), David (Karen), Jessie (Robert) Dennison, and Caroline Stewart; two sons and a daughter, Donald Robert (Diana) Hallenbeck of West Lafayette, IN, Timothy (Pam Wehling) Hallenbeck of Albion, NY, and Linda (Randy Boersig) Dyer of Arnold, MO. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be planned for later this year.
