Obituary of Doris N. Nelson Zabel Doris N. Zabel, age 99, entered into rest on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Briody Health Care Facility in Lockport. Born June 15, 1913 in Buffalo, Doris is the daughter of the late David and Carrie (Jones) Nelson. Doris grew up in Frewsburg, NY and graduated in 1934 from the WCA Hospital School of Nursing in Jamestown, NY. As a registered nurse, she worked at several hospitals including Niagara Falls Memorial and DeGraff Memorial. Doris married Lester Zabel in 1940. They had been happily married for 65 years and resided in the Town of Wheatfield for the majority of their lives before retiring to Florida in 1978. Doris returned to her familiar Western New York surroundings upon Lester’s passing in 2005. Dearest mother of: William (Vicki) Zabel, Carol Zebold (the late David) and Robert Zabel (Lynn Siegel, partner). Loving grandmother to eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Sister to the late David Nelson (Virginia) and the late Paul Nelson (the late Margaret). A memorial service celebrating Doris’s life will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery on June 15, 2013 on what would have been her 100th birthday.
