Obituary of Elizabeth Katherene Vanderlaan Albion: Elizabeth Katherene Vanderlaan, age 85, passed away December 9, 2016 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born on November 27, 1931 in Oak Grove, Florida, a daughter of the late James Houston and Carrie Mae (Eddins) Watkins. Katherene was a devoted member of the West Barre United Methodist Church, where she volunteered for many church functions. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, playing cards, and completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and could do anything with fabric or yarn. She would usually beat her family at new games, even though she hadn’t yet learned the rules. Katherene will also be remembered for her excellent baking skills. She retired in 1993 from the New York State Department of Corrections.
She was predeceased by her husband Stanley in 2014, daughter Barbara in 2015; 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Katherene is survived by her children, David, Ronald (Joanne), Dale (Anna), and Donna; 2 grandchildren, Kristin (Ben) Kaiser and Marc Vanderlaan; great-grandson, Andrew Kaiser; sisters, Bertie Dockstader and Erlene McCarthy; brother-in-law, Richard (Phyllis) Vanderlaan and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Katherene’s Memorial Service will be held at the West Barre United Methodist Church, 5377 Eagle Harbor Rd. Albion, NY 14411 at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22nd. Private interment in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Barre United Methodist Church.
