Obituary of Evelyn M. Bates Evelyn M. Bates formerly of Burt, NY passed away early Thursday morning March 5, 2015 at the Briody Healthcare Facility. Mrs. Bates was born in Pittsburgh, Penna. on January 5, 1920 daughter of the late Thomas A. and Josephine( Raymond) Saia. She and her husband George H. Bates were married in Lockport, NY on July 25, 1941 and lived in Burt for many years. He predeceased her on June 1, 2000. Mrs. Bates was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Olcott and was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church. She was also a member of the DeSales Mother's Club and sold Mass Cards for the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales for many years. She loved and enjoyed her family, cooking, crocheting, tatting and tending to her rose bushes and was an avid swimmer well into her 80's. She was predeceased by her siblings, Katherine DiCarlo, Joseph Saia, Louis Saia and Rose Provenzano. She is survived by her son Dennis G. (Ann E) Bates of Middleport, Nana to Dennis G. (Tracy) Bates Jr., of Hilton, NY., Jeffrey W. (Sheryl) Bates, DDS and Susan E. (Michael) Lehman all of Lockport. Also surviving are her great grandchildren Lauren Bates, Eric Lehman, Julie Bates, Brian Bates, Renee Lehman and Madden Bates. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport, NY. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM at All Saints Parish/St. Joseph's Oratory, 391 Market St., Lockport, NY where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. David M. Whalen O.S.F.S. Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery. Memorials to the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales, 2043 Parkside Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43607-1597 would be appreciated by the Bates family.
