Obituary of Frances Catherine Fisher Obit - Thursday, July 24, 2014 US&J Frances Catherine Fisher,age 99 went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the Medina Memorial Healthcare System. "We are confidant I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord", 2 Corinthians 5:8. Mrs. Fisher was born November 10, 1914 in Oil City, Pennsylanaia daughter of Matthew and Theodosia (Dragan) Burka. When she was five years old the family moved to Buffalo, NY. She attended local schools including a Ukrainian school. Following school she
worked in a Buffalo restaurant where she met her future husband Theron (Bob) Fisher. Fran and Bob were married on March 9, 1937 in Cheektowaga, NY. She was an active member of Faith Bible Baptist Church in Medina, NY. She loved music and played the madolin. She held various jobs as a waitress and cook in area restaurants including the Waldorf in Buffalo and the Applegrove Inn in Medina, both before and after raising five children. Her Ukrainian heritage was very precious to her and she spoke Ukrainian fluently. She enjoyed needlework, especially embroidery as well as other aspects of homemaking. Above all she loved the Lord, Jesus Christ. She was predeceased by her husband Bob as well as her parents, her stepfather Nikolay Tymusz and siblings Joe, John, Oly, Alek, and grandson Leslie Fisher Jr. She is surviied by her children Leslie (Ruth) Fisher of Middleport, Diane (Roland) Davis of St.Cloud, Florida, Paul (Linda) Fisher of Middleport, Christine (Jack) Halligan of Rochester and Marilyn (David) Nesbitt of Plymouth, New Hampshire. Also survivied by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, her sister Catherine Burka of Arlilngton, Virginia and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday from 11:00 AM until 12:00PM at the Faith Bible Baptist Church, Medina where funeral services will be held at 12Noon. Burial will be in Kenyonville Cemetery.
