Obituary of Francis J. Slattery .
Francis "Red" Slattery of Middleport passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Erie County Medical Center.
Mr. Slattery was born in Lockport, NY on February 24, 1926 son of the late Phillip and Mary (Condren) Slattery and he has lived in Middleport all of his life.
Mr. Slattery served in the US Marine Corp during World War II and received several medals including the Purple Heart. He later served in the US Army in Korea.
He and his wife Norma M. Slattery were married July 2, 1960 and she predeceased him December 31, 2006. He was also predeceased by two sisters and one brother Esther Simpson, Mary Elizabeth Matusak and Charles Slattery.
He was employed at the Middleport Post Office for several years until retirement.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Church, American Legion Clute Phillips Post # 938 and he loved to play golf.
He is survived by a sister Marguerite Dyer of Niagara Falls and a brother Phillip Slattery of Middleport and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State St., Middleport.
Members of Holy Trinity Parish will meet at the funeral home Sunday evening at 6:30 PM for a Vigil Service.
Members of Clute Phillips American Legion Post #938 will meet at the funeral home Sunday at 7PM.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St.Stephen's RC Church, 21 Vernon St., Middleport, NY where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Fawls.
Memorials to the Middleport Food Pantry would be appreciated by the Slattery family.
Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery.
