Obituary of Frederick W. Giertz, Sr. (MIDDLEPORT) Frederick W. Giertz, Sr. age 93, died April 15, 2019 in the Niagara Hospice House following a lengthy illness. He was born June 15, 1925 in the Town of Royalton to Walter and Augusta (Wagner) Giertz and was a life-long resident of this area. Frederick was a Veteran of the United States Army, a retiree of Harrison Radiator and was a member of the Victory Assembly of God Church in Akron. He loved carpentry, gardening, and as his family said, “…He was a Jack of All Trades and a Master of None.” Frederick was a mentor in and of life for all his family and will be remembered as a man of strong faith and someone who was steadfast in his convictions. Mr. Giertz was predeceased by his son, Frederick Giertz Jr., and 2 sisters: Helen Huth and Anna Heschke. He is survived by his wife of 67 years; Ida, his daughter: Betty (John) Pollow of Lockport, daughter-in-law: Jolene Giertz, grandchildren: Tammy Sears, Wendy (Craig) Bacon, Brian (Mary) Giertz, 12 great grandchildren, his sisters: Gladys Dunn of Ransomville, Dorothy Powers of Cherry Creek, Esther (J.G.) Cross of Greece as well as many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home, 38 State Street-Middleport, WEDNESDAY from 3-7 where his Funeral Service will be held THURSDAY at 11 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Royalton Mountain Ridge Cemetery.
