Bill was born on June 26, 1930 in Albion, N.Y., to Meryl (Skinner ) and Harold Parsons. He grew up in the Albion area, living with his mother, two sisters and grandfather in Carlton, N.Y. He earned a scholarship to Bucknell University, which he attended for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, which he served for 20 years as an air traffic controller.
