Gene Leigh

Obituary of Gene Leigh Albion: C. Eugene Leigh, age 93, passed away February 1, 2021. He was born October 25, 1927 in Albion to the late Elmer and Cecelia (Sandal) Leigh. Gene served his country in the Navy during WWII. With his wife’s father, Gene farmed and operated Proctor Brook Farm in Childs for many years. He also served as the Gaines Town Justice for 42 years. Gene and his wife Bev were one of the founding families of the Arc of Orleans County, which was established to bring services to special needs children in our area. In addition to his parents, Gene was predeceased by his wife, Beverly Murray Leigh, son, John Murray Leigh, son-in-law, David Hatch and son-in-law, Lee Minier. Gene is survived by his daughter, Valerie Hatch of Dallas, daughter, Meredith Minier of Albion, grandchildren, Coleen Quarles, Garrett (Rachael) Hatch, Marissa (Patrick) Olles, great-grandchildren, David, Christian, Benjamin and Alison Quarles, Carolina and Audrey Hatch, Hannah Olles, one great-great-grandchild, Cooper Leigh Quarles, sister, Patricia (Hank) Hellert, several nieces, nephews, cousins and Burger King friends. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
