Obituary of George E. Easterbrook DDS October 4, 1918-October 11, 2012 Longtime Kenmore resident Dr. George Easterbrook, local dentist, educator, World War II veteran and father of a prominent federal judge, died in Lockport of old age. He was 94. Born in Toronto, Dr. Easterbrook graduated in 1937 from the old Kenmore High, then worked as a “soda jerk” at a Kenmore drugstore while studying chemistry at the old Buffalo Technical. He served in France and Germany during World War II as a U.S. Army sergeant, participating in the Battle of Heilbronn. Dr. Easterbrook graduated from the University at Buffalo dental school in 1952, then practiced dentistry in Amherst until 1986. He taught pediatric dentistry at what is now Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, receiving a 30-year service award. For his professional accomplishments, Dr. Easterbrook was named a life member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the dentists’ honorary organization, and in retirement was an assistant professor emeritus for the University at Buffalo. As a hobby, he flew single-engine aircraft. Dr. Easterbrook was a deacon of Kenmore Baptist Church and active in charity through Kiwanis International. Late in life he attended Warrens Corners United Methodist Church of Cambria. Dr. Easterbrook had three sons. Frank Easterbrook of Chicago, chief judge of the federal appellate court for the upper Midwest, was profiled in the Buffalo News in 2006. Gregg Easterbrook of Bethesda, Maryland, is an author. Neil Easterbrook of Fort Worth, Texas, is a professor at Texas Christian University. Dr. Easterbrook’s first wife, the former Vimy Hoover, a teacher in the Buffalo public school system, died in 1976. He is survived by his second wife, the former Donalda Sundgren; by his sons and adopted daughter Nancy Tatum of Knoxville, Tennessee; by a stepdaughter, Sheila Devereaux of Lockport, and a stepson, Donald Sundgren of Charlottesville, Virginia; by 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 11:00 am from Warrens Corners United Methodist Church, 5293 Stone Road, Lockport, NY 14094 with the Reverend Carl Chamberlain officiating.
