Obituary of Helen Marie Atkinson Gilligan Helen “Honey” Marie Gilligan, age 80, went home to be with our Lord with dignity and grace on Monday, February 23, 2015, surrounded by her loving family and Hospice, beside her all the way. Born February 8, 1935 in Cheektowaga, Honey is the daughter of the late Milton G. and Margaret (Quinn) Atkinson Sr. She married James Gilligan, October 15, 1955 at Hartland Methodist Church. Helen worked at Howell Nursing Home and Hanci’s Homecare both in Lockport as a nurse’s aide. When she lived in Virginia, Honey was a member of Riverside Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her grand nieces and nephews. Helen lived in Newfane for the last 2 years, previously of Virginia Beach, VA. and Middleport. Honey is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years: James Gilligan. Dear mother of: Scott (Anita) Gilligan of Virginia Beach, VA; grandmother of: Christina Cassidy and Dylan Gilligan; great grandmother of: Damon Cassidy; aunt of: Darcy and Jeff Jacobs, Lori and Jim Donner, Time and Gerry Dent, Marcy Weaver (Joe), Steve (Gerry) Crist, Debbie (Gary) Ray and Rita (Dan) Johns; great aunt of: Kathryn Donner, Emily Donner, Allen Donner, Brandon Dent, Tyler Dent, Timothy Dent, Steven (Carrie) Crist and Kelly Weaver. Sister of the late: Milton G. Atkinson Jr., Diane Stevens, Dorothy Crist, Mildred Wolfe and John Atkinson. There will be no prior visitation, services will be held at the convenience of the family.
