Helen J. Scharping

Obituary of Helen J. Scharping Albion: Helen J. "Chip" Scharping age 92, died December 29, 2014, with her loving family at the Martin-Linsin Hospice Residence. She was born March 5, 1922 in Geneseo NY, a daughter of the late Frank & Margaret (Wilson) Stewart. Chip lived all her adult life in Albion and she married Edward R. "Ted" Scharping on October 30, 1948 at Christ Episcopal Church in Albion. She owned and operated Helenette Beauty Shop in Albion for many years. Chip was an accomplished porcelain china artist, showing her work at art shows in Rochester and Buffalo. She was a social member of B.P.O.Elks Lodge #1006 of Albion.
She is survived by her loving, devoted, adoring and proud husband of 66 years, Ted; loving children, Patricia Fay Gopen of Canandaigua, Scott Brian (Sharon) Scharping of Kendall; grandchildren, Tyler Miles Gopen, Cara Fay Gopen, Megan Renee (John) Williams, Colleen Shannon Clary; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother, George C. Stewart.
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Avenue, Albion, Friday 1/2/2015 from 4:00-6:00 only. Following visitation, a Celebration of Chip's Life will be held at the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, 428 W. State St. Albion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans, P.O. Box 489, Albion NY 14411.
