Herbert Merkley Sr.

Obituary of Herbert Merkley Sr. (Clarendon) Herbert J. Merkley Sr. age 72 died November 30, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 10, 1941 in Jordan NY, a son of the late Joseph and Harriet (Barber) Merkley and had lived in this area for most of his life. Herb had worked as a mechanic for over 50 years; he owned and operated Merkley's Auto Repair. He loved to putter in his wood shop and he had loved to race stock cars which he did for many years; his car number was #64. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother "little" Andy; his step-dad Andy Messier; step-mom Geraldine Merkley and his dear friends Les Bozeat and Dick Stockwell. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dora; children Suzette Hahn of Holley, Yvonne (Phillip) Newbould Sr. of Kendall, Sarah (Mark) Davis of FL, Sandra (Scott) Ellis of Greece, Penthea Curtis of Holley, Joseph (Anne) Merkley of Holley, Herbert (Stephanie) Merkley Jr. of Holley, Corrinda (Michael) Shepherd of Holley; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother David (Leatrice) Merkley Sr. of Port Byron NY; sisters Kathy (Brian Wart) Bozeat of Memphis NY, Sally Bozeat of Skaneateles NY; dear friends Don Cleere of Holley, Rich Spofford of Greece; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 16650 State Rte. 31 (W. Albion Rd.) in Holley on Wednesday from 4-7 where his Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 1:00pm. Burial will be in N. Byron Cemetery.
