Obituary of Jacqueline Jean Rau Jacqueline Toner Rau, age 65, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Buffalo General Hospital. Born January 22, 1949 in New York City, Jackie is the daughter of the late John and Gladys (Skowron) Toner. Jacqueline grew up on Long Island, attending the Great Neck Public Schools. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Education from the State University of Oneonta, Jackie completed her Master of Science in Educational Administration through the State University of New York at New Paltz. Jackie began her career in education as an English teacher in the East Ramapo School District in Spring Valley, NY. She later became the coordinator of the Individual Progress Class, an alternative program for disenfranchised students. Moving to Broom County, Jackie again taught English in the Union Endicott School District. In 1984 she became the Assistant Principal at the Jennie F. Snapp Middle School in that district. In 1994 Jackie became Principal at Lyndonville High School where she retired in 2005. Her personal credo is “Education and learning is a never ending process.” Jackie loved working with the entire faculty, staff and students at all of the school districts that she served. Her philosophy towards education was, “School and everyone in school are here for the students. A school should be a place where students, staff and the community enjoy coming to.” Jackie was a member of the National Middle Schools Association, Nation Association for Mediation in Education, Educators for Social Responsibility, Delta Kappa Gamma International and Broome County Status of Women Council. Jackie enjoyed building bird and butterfly houses, cooking, wine, reading, and had a love of the outdoors enjoying nature, camping, golf, gardening and travel. Jackie is survived by her husband David H. Rau whom she married December 6, 2010; a brother, John Toner of NYC and a sister, Aloysha Sipp of Albany; stepdaughter, Laura Carter, Stepson Adam Rau and one grandson Tyler Carter. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main Street, Gasport on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 6-9 pm. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 2 pm. Memorials appreciated to The Gratwick Society, the leading fighter against cancer.
