James "Papa" Mapes

Waterport: James “Papa” Mapes, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on August 6, 2023. He was born May 25, 1948 in Medina to the late Wallace and Ruby (Martin) Mapes.

“Let me tell you a story.” Papa enjoyed woodworking, spending time outdoors, listening to country music, maintaining his property and spending time with his dog Rocky. He worked for some time for the Town of Carlton, taking care of Carlton Cemetery and driving the plow trucks in the winter. Above all, Papa cherished the love of family and relished every moment spent with loved ones, creating cherished memories that will forever be etched in our hearts.

In addition to his parents, Papa was predeceased by his wife Paula in 1994, siblings, John and Joan. Papa is survived by his children, Timothy and Tracey Mapes, grandchildren, Charlie Nieto, Sarah (Geoff) Saxton, Jimmy (Gretta) Mapes, great-grandchildren, Brayden, Bryce and Brynlee Saxton, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for Papa will be held privately.
