James Thornton of Albion, formerly of Mesa, AZ and Long Island, NY, passed away September 6, 2024 at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was born August 12, 1943 in Brooklyn to the late Richard and Rose Thornton.
Jim served in the US Army from 1964 to 1966 and received an honorable discharge. He was a commercial artist by trade, often times producing pieces in the Long Island area and privately. Still to this day there is a mural on a firehouse in Long Island and artwork at the Long Island National Cemetery that Jim produced.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Carolyn, siblings, Ed, Tom, Donny and Eileen.
Jim is survived by his wife of 5 years Patricia Thornton, children James (Danya) Thornton, Cathy (David) Ruiz, Rebecca (James) Long, sister, Pat Garbato, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
His memorial service will be held at Faith Bible Baptist Church 3064 North Gravel Rd. Medina, NY 14103 on Friday, September 13th at 11:00am. Interment along with military honors will be held at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY on Friday, September 27th at 10:30am..
