Obituary of Janet L Thompson Janet L. Thompson passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at her home in Holley, NY, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The daughter of Modest and Helen Thompson, Janet was born June 17, 1932 at Dorothy WV. After graduating from Clear Fork High School, Janet began what would become a thirty-seven year career with the Owens-Illinois Glass Company. Starting as a bottle selector in Charleston, WV, she continued her education at Charleston Business School and moved to the position of secretary to the OI Personnel Director. When the Charleston OI plant closed in 1962, Janet and Jeff were transferred to Brockport, NY where she later became Credit Union Manager. As the Brockport OI plant prepared for closing in 1985, she was instrumental in helping to establish the Brockport Federal Credit Union, where she served as manager until her retirement in 1997. A woman of many talents and interests, Janet's primary activities centered around her church and her family. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Holley and the Holley Garden Club. She also enjoyed cooking, flower arrangement, crafts, antiques, skiing, travel, and sewing. Janet was a unique and caring individual who possessed an unwavering belief in the goodness of people and in the ability of people to persevere if given a helping hand and a chance in life. No one will ever know the countless families and individuals that she quietly supported, financially and otherwise, through difficult times in their lives. She will live forever in the hearts of so many.
