Obituary of Jean Johnston (ALBION)
Jean W. Johnston, age 89 of Meadowbrook Drive, died 8/2/2012 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born 2/19/1923 in Albion to Leon and Florence(Whitwell)Walters and was a life-long resident of this area. Jean was an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps. and served in the US Navy Reserve during WWII. Mrs. Johnston received her RN from Children's Hospital School of Nursing and worked 25 years at Arnold Gregory Hospital Retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Albion First United Methodist Church, the Sheret Post #35 American Legion, the Sheret Post #35 American Legion Auxiliary, the Albion High School Alumni Association, and the Children's Hospital of Buffalo Alumni Association. Jean, along with her late husband Leighton "Slim", served as the American Legion Graves Registration Committee in Orleans County. Mrs. Johnston was predeceased by her husband Leighton "Slim" Johnston in June of 2008. She is survived by her children: Betty Sue(Fred)Miller of Albion, Barbara(James)Navarra of Albion, Douglas(Francine)Johnston of Victor, Donald Johnston of KY, a cousin: Virginia Wright of Brockport and 7 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Albion United Methodist Church, the Albion High School Alumni Association, or Hospice of Orleans. Visitation
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Avenue-Albion, FRIDAY August 10, from 4-7 p.m. Services
Family and friends are invited to attend Jean's Memorial Service SATURDAY August 11, at 11:00 a.m. in the Albion First United Methodist Church (North East corner of Platt and East State Street.) Interment
Burial will be in Mount Albion Cemetery with full Military Honors.
