Obituary of Joette M. Haines Point Breeze, Kent, New York Joette McKenna Haines, 76, passed away on July 13, 2014 after a brief battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. She was born November 7, 1937 in Albion, New York, the youngest of four, to Joseph A. McKenna and Mary D. McKenna. Joey, as she was known to many, graduated from Albion High School in 1955 and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Brockport State College in 1959. She retired from the Medina school system in 1992 after more than 30 years as a primary school teacher and reading specialist. Joey was an active, leading member of Holy Family Parish, serving for many years as a volunteer on the Special Liturgies and Bereavement committees. Her work and attention to detail helped to enhance the beauty of the liturgical seasons for all who visited the church. Joey and her husband Gene have a long history of welcoming people and their charitable causes into their home. They are charter members of the Oak Orchard Neighborhood Association (OONA) and avid supporters of the Oak Orchard Lighthouse Association. Joey always appreciated the beauty of the lighthouse and Point Breeze, delighting in all of the area's activity. Her generous spirit extended to the many animals who found loving homes and better lives through her heartfelt concern for every creature, great and small. Her own pets held a very special place in her life. Anyone who encountered Joey Haines will understand that describing the many extraordinary facets of her personality is almost impossible. She was the most unique, loving, generous, and whimsical individual one could ever have the good fortune to know. All who knew her were most blessed by her friendship and love. Joey is survived by her husband of 54 years, Eugene Haines; her sisters Karen Carroll and Margot O'Halloran; her brother John McKenna and sister-in-law Karen; nine nieces, eleven nephews, and loving extended family.
