Obituary of Kathleen Sinel Guilderland, NY - Dr. Kathleen "Kathy" Marie Cecelia Flansburg Sinel passed away on October 31, 2014 in Guilderland, NY. She was born on February 8, 1948 in Rochester, NY to the late George and Catherine (Costello) Flansburg. Kathy grew up in the Holley area and lived in numerous other locales until settling in Guilderland in 1994. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School, the Rochester Institute of Technology and Walden University. Kathy enjoyed a successful career in secondary and higher education. She held positions as the CFO of several higher educational institutions, including the Eastman School of Music, Wayland Academy and the College of St. Rose. Kathy's true passion, however, was causing mischief. Kathy was known for her propensity for late-night, collect calls to her family, leaving leftovers on her son's porch and presenting inappropriate gifts to loved-ones in the presence of strangers. She was notoriously stubborn, believing that there was no goal she could not accomplish once she had set her mind to it. In fact, we trust that she is currently negotiating her return for the November 15th celebration in her honor. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers George and John. She is survived by her sons, Shawn (Michelle) Sinel of Saratoga Springs, NY and Scott Sinel of Guilderland, NY; her brother, Gerard Flansburg of Holley, NY; her sister, Cecelia Flansburg of Albion, NY; her granddaughter, Mallory Sinel; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 16650 State Route 31 (West Albion Rd.) HOLLEY, NY, Saturday November 15th from 11:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. where her Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ARC of Orleans County, 122 Caroline St. P.O.
