Obituary of Luther A. Klafehn (Kendall) Luther A. "Joe" Klafehn, age 88, passed away September 28, 2016 following a long illness. Joe was born March 30, 1928, in Walker, NY, the son of Luther H. “Lute” and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Lotzow) Klafehn, and was a lifelong area resident. Joe was affiliated with Klafehn's Painting & Decorating for forty years, a business founded by his father in 1923, and continued by Joe and his brother, Dean upon their father's retirement. For many years, he also ran a TV and radio repair service. Joe was a longtime member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Kendall, where he was known as "The Candy Man", because of the pocketful of candy he carried to give to the children (and to smiling adults) as he greeted them on Sunday mornings. Joe absolutely loved his grandchildren, who they called "Grandpa Joe" and affectionately referred to him as their "favorite toy". Joe is survived by Adeline, his wife of 68 years; son, Rod (Patty), of Laurens, NY; daughter, Susan (Donn) Pritchard, of Mendon, NY; brothers, Dean (Loraine) and Karl (Barbara) and sister, Marion "Mick" Rath, all of Hamlin; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Unterborn. Visitation will take place at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1769 Kendall Road, Kendall, NY Saturday, October 8, 2016, 11 AM-1 PM, with the funeral service to follow at 1 PM. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Hamlin, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.
