Mary L. Herring

Obituary of Mary L. Herring (KENDALL) Mary L. Herring, age 79, died 1/19/2018 in Lakeside Beikirch Care Center following a short illness. She was born 9/29/1938 to Walter Sr. and Ella (Curtis) Steffen and had lived in Kendall her entire lifetime. Mary was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, and the Kendall Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. As a person who loved her community, Mary volunteered at the Kendall Elementary School where she worked in the Library. She also worked many years at the Hilton Apple Festival and volunteered whenever she could at Hospice of Orleans. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother often affectionately called “Grandma” by many children in the Kendall area. Mary loved watching her grandchildren play sports, especially soccer. She also enjoyed going out to lunch, watching the Rochester Red Wings, eating stadium food, and desserts…any dessert. Mary loved to read, enjoyed playing cards, and will be remembered for sending greeting cards to people to brighten their day. She was very family oriented and truly enjoyed entertaining for her family, something she prepared for all on her own. Mrs. Herring was predeceased by her husband George Herring Jr., and her sister Alice Schepler. She is survived by her daughters: Teresa (Grieg) Quetschenbach of Greece, Lori (David) Moore of Kendall, her brother: Walter (Dolly) Steffen Jr. of Kendall, grandchildren:Eddie (Brooke), Michael, Rachel (Chris), Brandon, Robert as well as a great granddaughter, Emmy. There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend Mary’s Funeral Service, SUNDAY 1/28/2018 in Concordia Lutheran Church, 1769 Kendall Rd., Kendall beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be held in the Spring in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the church or the Kendall Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, 1879 Kendall Rd., Kendall, NY, 14476.
