Merton Downey

Obituary of Merton Downey Merton “Sonny” Downey, age 76 of Middleport, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Medina Memorial Hospital. Born December 25, 1935 in Royalton, he was the son of the late Wilbert and Mae V. (Clark) Downey. Merton had worked as a beater for the Upson Company in Lockport, retiring in May of 1973. Being an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and gardening. He also liked to tinker with his tractors and enjoyed farming and putting puzzles together. Merton had lived in Middleport for 48 years, previously of Lyndonville. Brother of Virginia (Melvin) Carr of Medina and the late Joyce Downey, Vivia Downey, Marian Downey, Janet Downey, and Jeane Downey. Uncle of Ann and Cindy Carr, great uncle of Michael Ryder Jr. and Melissa Rodgers and great great uncle of Jacob Ryder. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main Street, Gasport on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home with the Reverend Rodney Klinzing officiating. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery, Lockport, NY.
