Obituary of Rho Mitchell Albion: Rho B. Mitchell age 86, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 1, 2015. Rho was born July 29, 1928 in Elmira, NY, a son of the late James and Lola (Church) Mitchell. He married his High School sweetheart Beverly (Landon) Mitchell on September 8, 1950. Rho and Bev moved to Albion in 1955, where he started his Funeral Directing career at the former Leon Grinnell Funeral Home. In 1957 Rho and Ken Scharett started Scharett Mitchell Funeral Home in Albion. In 1971 Rho merged with Michael Christopher and built a Funeral Home in Holley and changed the name to Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc, of Albion and Holley. Rho retired in 1992 at which time the business was passed on to his son David and in 2012 his grandson, Joshua joined the family business. Rho served his country as a Medic during the Korean War on the Aircraft Carrier CVL49. Rho was very community oriented and was a life member of the Sheret Post #35 American Legion, serving two times as post Commander and was Legionnaire of the year in 1991. Rho was a life member and past President of the Albion Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow, and also received the Paul Harris Fellow through the Albion Rotary Club. Rho was also a member of the Renovation Lodge #97 F&AM and Scoutmaster of Troop #149 in Albion for many years.
Rho enjoyed all types of music and started the Albion Lions Club Bums band, Lions Club Clown Band and the American Legion Band.
He earned his Pilot License while in High School through the C.A.P and was a member of the former Knowlesville Flyers Club. He was predeceased by his brother, Ward Mitchell; brother-in-law Henry Spies. Rho is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverly; 3 children, Michael Mitchell of FL., Patricia (Jane Hobson) Mitchell of Hilton, David Mitchell of Holley; 3 grandchildren, Joshua, Brian, Eric Mitchell; sister, Elsie Spies of Long Island, NY, sister-in-law, Marylou Mitchell of Horseheads, NY; several nieces, nephews, special cousin, Kate Mitchell.
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Avenue, Albion, Thursday from 4:00-8:00, where his Funeral Service will be held Friday at 11:00am. Interment with military honors at Mt. Albion Cemetery.
