Obituary of Richard D. Bastedo (LEROY)
Richard D. Bastedo, age 61, of East Bethany-LeRoy Road, a devoted and proud Bus Operator for RTS, died suddenly 10/2/2014. Dick was born 10/21/1952 in Gowanda to Donald and Eleanor (Denea) Bastedo and grew up in Hamburg until moving to Rochester in 1981 and then to LeRoy in 1984. He was a member of Barre Center Presbyterian Church, the ATO Local 282 and the Hamburg Loyal Order of the Moose. Mr. Bastedo was a Bus Operator for Rochester Transit Service and had clocked over 3 Million Safe Driving Miles throughout his career. Dick took pride in representing the RTS family in the local Bus Roadeo competition where he had always finished in the top 3. In 1993 Dick won the International Bus Roadeo Competition which was held in New Orleans, LA. Among his other passions was music. Dick started playing the upright and electric Bass in the Moose Lodge at age 17 with a band called "Shenandoah" and then became a member of the 50's Rock and Roll Band "Flashback" where he was dubbed with the stage name "Boomer". A man who was always on the move and could fix anything, Dick was a member of the Theatre Organ Historical Society and helped restore and maintain the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ Housed at the Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda. He was a man of few words but had a copious amount of knowledge. Dick also enjoyed boating and snowmobiles and was a member of the Sons of Stafford and Oatka Valley Snowmobile Clubs. He enjoyed camping, gardening and landscaping but always put his family first and relished family-time the most. He was predeceased by his father Donald Leslie Bastedo. Survived by his wife of 31 years Sandra, son: Kevin(Tara)Bastedo, daughter: Katherine Bastedo, sister: Ann(Brian)Black, mother: Eleanor Bastedo, aunt: Bette Wellman, and 3 nephews. The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 21 West Avenue-Albion, MONDAY 4-7 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend Dick's Funeral Service at the Barre Center Presbyterian Church (4712 Oak Orchard Road-Albion,) TUESDAY at 11 a.m. followed by interment in Mt. Albion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans or the Church. Visitation
