Obituary of Richard J. Menzel Richard J. Menzel of Middleport passed away Thursday morning, November 14, 2013 at his home. Mr. Menzel was born in Medina, NY onJuly 5, 1924 son of the late Stephen and Rose (Grbowski) Menzel and he has lived in Middleport all of his life. Mr. Menzel served in the US Army during World War II in France and also served in the Battle of the Bulge. While in the service he received the American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and One Bronze Battle Star. He and his wife Theresa (Williams) Menzel were married June 9, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Medina, NY. Mr. Menzel was employed at Harrison Radiator Division as a process follow-up employee retiring after several years of service. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish/St.Stepehns RC Church, member of Harrison Retirees and a proud member of the United Auto Workers. An avid boatsman, he was an honorary member of the Oak Orchard Yacht Club, a member of Oak Orchard Power Squadron. For the past twenty years he and his wife wintered in Ft. Meyers, Florida where he was very active in Laurel Estates Home Association. Mr. Menzel enjoyed watching sports on TV, was an avid New York Yankees fan, was a great animal lover and an avid photographer. He was predeceased by a brother Donald Menzel. He is survived by his wife Theresa F. Menzel, his daughter Barbara (Late David) Kosztowniak of Tonawanda, NY.three grandsons William Kosztowniak of Lockport, Peter Kosztowniak of Watertown and Michael Kosztowniak of Tonawanda. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Betty Menzel of Gasport and several nieces and nephews. There will be no prior visitation. Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services Monday at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St.Stephen's RC Church, 21 Vernon St., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev.
