Richard A. Myers

Obituary of Richard A. Myers Richard began his career working as a truck driver and laborer at Ward Orchard and from 1962 until 1969 he delivered fuel oil for Hill Sheridan of Lockport. From 1969 until 1982 he worked as a line haul transport operator for Consolidated Freightways in Tonawanda. At this point Richard enjoyed traveling throughout the New England States and hauling freight. As much as Richard liked to drive, his fondest wish was to have a self-supporting farm. He loved growing vegetables, field crops and raising farm animals. In later years he loved to work with his hands, so he worked as a self-employed contractor doing remodeling and construction. He was very social and made many friends in his travels. He loved to drive long distance with his family, showing them the many places he had been. Richard enjoyed all of the people he met throughout his life but he especially loved being with his family. Playing euchre, poker and kings on the corners with his family and neighbors was also something Richard enjoyed doing. He had lived in Newfane and Wilson area most of his life. Richard married Louise (Wells) Myers July of 1960. They were married for 32 years and had five children. Richard is survived by three daughters: Donna J. Cody of Newfane, Annette (Glenn) Smith of Newfane, Patty (James) Taylor of Burt and two sons: Randall (Lisa) Myers of Wilson and Richard A. Myers Jr. (Emily Thielmann) of Lewiston, eight grandchildren: Cassandra Poss, Brandon Cody, Jennifer and Melissa Smith, Ben Taylor, Laura, Tyler and Zakary Myers and two great grandchildren: Skylar and Aiden Poss. Richard was the youngest and last surviving of seven children. Brother of the late: Naomi Myers, Beatrice Held, George Myers, Alice Wheeler, Alfred Myers and Frank Myers Jr. Several nieces and nephews also survive Richard. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Kenneth H. Sherrie Funeral Home, 6139 East Avenue, Newfane, NY on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 4-6 pm and Monday, December 30, 2013 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 11:00 am from the funeral home with the Reverend Richard Kempton officiating. Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Tonawanda, NY.
