Obituary of Roger Lyle MacKay Roger Lyle MacKay, age 71 of Middleport, entered into rest on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Born May 16, 1942 in Buffalo, Roger is the son of the late Lyle T. and Alice M. (Smith) MacKay. Roger attended Tonawanda High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962 in the 1st Armored Division and 1st Cavalry in Korea. He earned Journeyman’s status at Niagara Machine and Tool, ending his machinist career with General Motors at Harrison Radiator Division in Lockport in 1995. Roger was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, bowling, golfing and snowmobiling as a member of the Breezy Riders of Olcott. He was also involved for many years with custom and classic cars as a member of Freewheelers Car Club of Niagara Falls winning many national and local awards. More recent years found him RVing with the Empire Happy Wanderers Camping Club. Roger lived in the moment enjoying his family and friends. He had a way of making those he met feel very special and his infectious laugh will be remembered by many. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Hass) MacKay; daughter, Deborah MacKay Ritz (Marty Weaver) of Lockport; brother, Thomas MacKay of Wilmington, NC; step-daughter, Christine (James) Washak of Medina; and step-son, Kenneth (Jeanne) Anstey of Medina. Roger’s grandchildren are: Michael Bouchard, Jamie Washak, Jessica Washak, Benjamin Anstey, Kasey Turrell and Steven Turrell. Great grandchildren are: Eliza Washak and Bentley Radka. Roger was predeceased by his parents and granddaughter, Samantha Bouchard. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Sherrie-Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main Street, Gasport, on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:30 am at the United Methodist church, 9 Park Avenue, Middleport, NY with the Reverend James Knapp officiating. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church of Middleport or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
