Obituary of Ronald Sodoma Ronald L. Sodoma, 70, formerly of Albion, NY and currently of Greencastle, PA and Cape Coral, FL, died peacefully on April 13, 2015 following a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen, of 47 years; two daughters: Amanda (Coleman) McMahon of Catonsville, MD and Rebecca (Stephen) Wager of Lima, NY; grandchildren: Nathan, Liam, and Claire McMahon and Trenton and Alina Wager; two brothers: Robert J. (late Sharon and Jean) Sodoma of Cape Coral, FL and Randy (Jocelyn) Sodoma of Ft. Wright, KY; and several aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Born January 18, 1945, he was the first child of the late Edward A. and Gwendolyn Sodoma of Brockport, NY. Sodoma graduated from Brockport High School in 1963. He went on to the State University of New York at Brockport and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1967 followed by a Master of Science in Education in Administration in 1975 and a certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Administration in 1977.
Sodoma began his 35-year career with Albion Central School District in 1967 as a fifth grade teacher at Waterport School. He held several administrative positions including Superintendent of Schools from 1984 - 2002. During his tenure in the district, Sodoma worked diligently to ensure that Albion's students received a high-quality education that focused on solid academics, character education, athletic achievement, and life-long success. His influence spreads well outside of Albion, as he mentored many teachers and school administrators who began their careers at ACS. Admired throughout the state as an administrator of great integrity, Sodoma's vision led the district to receive local, state, and national recognition. Upon retirement in 2002, the district dedicated the Ronald L. Sodoma Elementary School in his honor. Sodoma's commitment to the community was exhibited through volunteerism with several local organizations, including: the First Baptist Church, Totem Pole Playhouse; Allison-Antrim Museum; the Greencastle-Antrim Elementary School, where he served as a reading tutor. He was an active member, former President, and long-time Secretary of Rotary Clubs of Brockport, NY; Albion, NY; and Greencastle, PA. He received the Paul Harris Fellow Award twice for distinguished service to his community. He lived his life with uncommon generosity and integrity. He will be lovingly and long remembered by his family, friends and those whose lives he touched.
The family will receive friends at Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, 21 W. Ave., Albion, NY on Sunday, April 19 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held at Albion First Baptist Church, 30 W. Park Street, Albion, NY on Monday, April 20 at 10 a.m. Sodoma will be laid to rest in Garland Cemetery in Brockport, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Ronald L. Sodoma Scholarship Fund at the Albion High School Alumni Foundation, Inc.; the American Cancer Society; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Visitation
