Alden: Sandra M. Zagmester, age 70, passed away on February 11, 2025. She was born on September 5, 1954, in Buffalo, NY to the late Harro and Ursula (Zehler) Hoerner.
Sandra was raised in Cheektowaga and moved to Alden in 1984 where she lived and raised her kids for 40 years. Sandra was a lifelong active member of St. John the Baptist Church. She was a seamstress and quilted vestments, stoles, and banners for the church that are still there to this day. She also did calligraphy for the church with her beautiful handwriting. Sandra also enjoyed creating costumes for her family in the plays for school and the church. She was proud of the work she did as a solderer making arcade games at ICE in Clarence for over 20 years.
In addition to her parents, Sandra was predeceased by her sister Marlene Hoerner.
Sandra is survived by her children, Laurie (Jeremy) Tavan, Michele Zagmester, Janie (Justin) Walker, and Eric (Kayla) Zagmester; grandchildren, Corwin, Lilah, Jackson, Owen, and Anna; siblings, Linda (Chuck) Eichhorn, Steven (Patricia “Pat”) Hoerner, Noreen Hoerner, and Heidi (Joseph) Luh; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sandra’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, 2021 Sandridge Rd, Alden, NY 14004, on Tuesday February 18, 2025, at 10am. Interment will follow at St. Mary of the Assumption on the Hill Cemetery, 1 St Mary’s St. Lancaster, NY 14086.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sandra’s name to the St. John the Baptist Church.
Sandra’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Bates, Wallace & Heath Funeral Home of Middleport, NY.
