Obituary of Stanley G. Vanderlaan Stanley G. Vanderlaan of Albion passed away on August 14th, 2014, on his 85th birthday. He was born in Albion in 1929, the son of Jacob and Ruth (Irvine) Vanderlaan. He served in the Air Force from 1948 - 1952, during the Korean War. Stan worked at T.J. Lipton's for about two years, then started his own business, S. Vanderlaan TV Sales and Service, retiring in 1997. After retiring, Stan was able to spend more time on his long-time interest, Native American archeology. He was a Research Fellow with the Rochester Museum and Science Center, and the New York State Archeological Association, and had written two books. He was a founding member of the Orleans County Historical Association, and a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Katherene; five children: David, Ronald (Joanne), Barbara, Dale (Anna), and Donna; and two grandchildren: Kristin (Ben) Kaiser and Marc Vanderlaan. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Phyllis) Vanderlaan, and two nephews, Richard and Gary. A service was held for the family at the graveside, and a memorial service will be held at the West Barre United Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept. 14th at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Orleans or the West Barre United Methodist Church.
