Velma Jean (Hare) Schulwitz, age 98, passed away on March 30, 2025, at Brothers of Mercy Nursing Home. She was born on October 14, 1926, in Hartland, a daughter of the late Clarence and Clara (Robison) Hare.
After graduating from Barker High School, Velma attended Bryant & Stratton College in Buffalo. She went on to work as a comptometer and keypunch operator for Harrison Radiator and IBM. Velma enjoyed ballroom dancing, ceramics, painting, and spending summers at the cottage on Lake Ontario. Above all, she cherished being with her family.
In addition to her parents, Velma was predeceased by her husband, Oliver; siblings Lucy Woodworth, Kenneth Hare, Henry Hare, Velsa Joyce Edwards, Doris Hainsey, and C. Richard Hare; and her step-son Jay Schulwitz.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Alan) Hutson; son, Paul (Jen Josiah) Schulwitz; step-children, Lynne Sprouse, Steven (Jean Clee) Schulwitz, Alan (Debbie) Schulwitz, and Kurt (Hector Herrera) Schulwitz; grandchildren, Nick, Chance, and Trey Hutson, Sara, Grace, and Andy Schulwitz; as well as several step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Velma’s Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 5, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sherrie Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main St., Gasport, NY 14067. Burial will follow at Hartland Cemetery.
