Walter C. Hawkins

(Medina) Walter C. Hawkins age 83, passed away February 9, 2023 at Medina Memorial Hospital. He was born August 8, 1939 in Barre Center, a son of the late James and Muriel Hawkins and had lived in this area all of his life.

Walter served in the US Army and was a member of the Medina Butts-Clark Post 204 American Legion, the Moose Club and the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Batavia. He worked for Starkweather Freight Lines in Albion as a dock worker, retiring after 25 years. Walter enjoyed playing dice and cards; especially pinochle and euchre.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Linda; brothers Herbert Hawkins, Howard Hawkins; sisters Frances Hawkins, Nancy Hawkins Hagerman. Walter is survived by his daughter Rhonda Hawkins; sons James (Kelly) Hawkins, Vincent (Jeanne) Hawkins; grandchildren Amanda, Zachary, Wesley, Mateo Hawkins; great-granddaughter Anaya Hawkins; sister Jackie Lyons as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

His Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday April 22nd at 2pm at the Jr. Wilson Sportsman Club, 3875 Bates Rd., Medina NY 14103. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis TN 38101-9908. Arrangements have been entrusted to Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes Albion.
