Obituary of William H. Hudson William H. (Bill) Hudson entered eternity the morning of June 24, 2013 due to his faith and acceptance of Jesus Christ. Bill spent his last days at home on Hanlon Rd with his wife(and best friend) of 62 ½ years, Joan. Hospice of Orleans by their guidance and excellent care made staying at home possible.
William was born to Virginia(Sherman) and Raymond Hudson of Holley, NY on March 23, 1924. He very soon became the older brother of Sherman (Bud) Hudson of Pine Island, FL. After high school Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country in the 15th Mechanical Cavalry in the European Theater during World War II. Bill is a decorated veteran having received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained at the Rhine River. After recovering in Army hospitals in England and the US returned to Albion.
On August 12, 1950 Bill and Joan Zorn married. They have two children Mark (Ellen) Hudson of Louisville, KY and Gail(Bill) Allen of Ocracoke, NC and 5 grandchildren Eric (Becky) Hudson, Michael (Paula) Hudson, Kory(Gina) Allen, Brian(Naomi) Allen and Joanna(Jonathan) Himes. Blessed with 9 great grandchildren Bill was proud to recite their names in birth order; Brady, Silas, Cody, Bailey, Caleb, Simon, Dylan, Emma and Gracie. Bill was a favorite uncle to Ginny Rae, Sharon and Barbara and his great nieces and nephews. Considered as family, neighbors Mike and Krys Elam were very special to Bill for the last 31 years.
Bill worked for the NY Telephone Company his entire career retiring in 1984. A lifelong resident of Orleans County, Bill was a member of First Baptist Church for many years and, thereafter, a member of the Barre Center Presbyterian Church. He was active in the life of both churches, teaching Sunday school, participating in the men's prayer breakfast and serving as a deacon and elder.
Bill was a lifelong member of the Elks Club, a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and a member the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Throughout his life Bill enjoyed many hobbies; sailing, golf, traveling the world, downhill and cross country skiing, fishing, and canoeing. He was a member of Oak Orchard/Harbor Pointe Golf Club for 50 years. He particularly enjoyed being outdoors but when that was not possible he loved to read.
Bill never met a stranger; he loved to interact with people and took a genuine interest in everyone. He always had story to tell, songs to sing and was determined to teach the "Eagle Harbor" wave to everyone he met.
Bill will be missed greatly by his family and all who knew him. He has left us with many fond memories which will undoubtedly bring smiles to our faces for years to come.
