After a short illness and tenacious fight, Bill left us peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side on May 24, 2021. Bill was a gentle giant, a man of few words. But he left a lasting impact on everyone he met, always leading by example. Bill loved the Buffalo Bills and the Syracuse Orange and working alongside his team at the Sheriff’s Department, but his family was everything to him.
Bill was born on June 17, 1956 in Albion to William and Elsie Oliver. He grew up in Albion, graduating with the class of 1974. Bill married the love of his life Michelle in 1981, and together raised two daughters in Medina. Bill worked at Liptons and as a police officer in the Village of Albion, but is most remembered for his 33 year career as a dispatcher with the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department where he retired in January 2020. His calm, steady, compassionate, and professional demeanor impacted so many. Bill overcame may health struggles in his life, but never complained or asked “why me?”
Bill is predeceased by his parents, Bill and Elsie Oliver and his father-in-law Art Lucas. He is survived by his true love Michelle; his daughters Alissa (Rich Mitchell) Bruce, Lyndsey (Travis) Oliver-Farewell, his bonus daughter Celeste (Michael) Cline; grandchildren: Elaina and Sydney Bruce and Kendall and Parker Oliver-Farewell; his mother-in-law Dee Lucas; sister-in-law Joette (Herb) Oberther; brother-in-law James (Lisa) LaRock; brother Robert (Stephanie) Oliver; several cousins that he cherished as siblings; many precious nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
Family and friends will be received at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home 21 West Avenue in Albion on Saturday June 5 from 11-1 with a celebration of life immediately following.
